The UNC-CH, School of Social Work AHEC Training Partnership is a collaborative effort with the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers Program (NC AHEC) to meet the educational and career needs of our state’s behavioral health professionals. The NC AHEC Program provides educational programs and services that bridge academic institutions and communities to improve the health of the people of North Carolina with a focus on underserved populations. The School of Social Work at UNC-CH has worked in partnership with the NC AHEC Program for more than three decades. Our faculty, Ph.D. students and field instructors serve as SSW/AHEC trainers and provide continuing professional development (CPD) for social work, behavioral health, substance abuse, developmental disabilities, heath and other human service personnel.
Providing the most current evidence-based practice information, the SSW/AHEC training team demonstrate their commitment to meet the educational demands of behavioral health professionals across North Carolina by providing over 400 hours of CPD programming each year to the nine regional AHECs. CPD events offered via the School of Social Work AHEC Training Partnership include half-day and full-day workshops and presentations at state-wide conferences. These programs offer specific continuing education credit needed for these professionals to maintain their licenses and/or certifications in their designated field. In addition to offering a wide range of CPD programming, the SSW/AHEC Training Partnership also collaborates on a number of projects within the School that promote innovation in education in keeping with the NC AHEC program mission to meet the state’s health and health workforce needs.
